    Hi Ian, How easy is this to fix ? Its it a case of cutting the tube and blocking the ends off ? Mine idles ok once warm but if you rev her hard it feels like she will cut out as the revs drop to low. Mine is a 2015 model with about 2200 miles on the clock. Regards John

    • @ijwilson
      @ijwilson Місяць тому

      Not quite. The tube connects to the throttle body assembly and the idle air is shared between each throttle body. You need to block the channel that connects each throttle body to stop the charge robbing effect that causes all the problems. So you need to make a plug that blocks the channel. Once that's done you need to set the idle screw on the throttle body where the throttle cable meets the throttle body. Set it so when cold the engine can just tick over, this will mean when warm the idle speed won't be to high.

    The Atto ride is already on the soft side, so I don't care about that, does it corner a bit better with a stiffer sidewall, what was the ambient temparature under both tests and when you filled. What about at 60 and 80.

    • @ijwilson
      @ijwilson 2 місяці тому

      The damping is pretty hopeless, but it's a family mini-SUV, so difficult to complain about the ride, esp. at the price point. Temp was around 20C for both tests, i.e. same starting ambient temp. Ain't going to drive up the motorway at 60kmph! The point was over inflating tyres does not lead to a noticeable improvement in 'battery' economy.... More likely you'll just need to replace your tyres a bit sooner negating any savings in battery economy which if there are any are so small to be lost in the 'noise'.

    lol, I've just re watched the start of the video and noticed the Silver Fern on the car number plate. South or North Island? I'm Canterbury; I've been riding 55 years and back to a bike I started with, a 1970 Triumph T100R. All the best and stay safe.

      North Island - not far from Pukekohe. You've got a few more years in the saddle than me. Started with my Dad's bikes in the early 80's including a smoky Jawa Speedtwin 350, BSA and Matchless bikes. First of my own was a seemingly mental 2 stroke Yamaha RD400 with cafe racer bars etc. :)

      Been in NZ 34 years and had 14 bikes (so far). seven BMW medium to large tourers, loved the K75C. Got too many tickets, so went to the track. Started with a 125 Honda/Suzuki bucket, then built a 350 Suzuki Post Classic (full 350 with PE175 pistons). Then built a 250 Rotax engined BEARS bike, which nealy killed me, because the frame I'd had made, broke at Teratonga on the last lap while trying to take back first place. I gave up racing lol. Life is more sedate these days and love tinkering with a bike who's like an old friend. I tried to find an RD350 for classic racing, but like hens teeth, so went Suzuki.

      @@richardt.4224 I also got to many tickets... But went down the four wheels route - did every track worth doing in Europe, did a roadie through the States with the car when I moved back to NZ (Tail of the Dragon etc) and a trackday at Laguna Seca (fantastic track). The Norton you'll be pleased to know didn't escape - did a trackday at Hampton Downs on it. ua-cam.com/video/buzVGSzsJME/v-deo.html

      Thank god you're clearly not old enough to have a license! They were doing 75kmph in the right hand lane of SH1, while drifting into and out of the left lane at no time using their indicator. Traffic was backed up until the black ute plucked up enough courage to undertake them and communicate via sign language what he thought...

    • @sharkskinboy
      @sharkskinboy 4 місяці тому

      @@ijwilson I agree, no indicator is bad and he's going too slow in the right lane, but his weaving is because he's trying to switch to the left lane and no one is allowing him to do so. This is no doubt because of the speed difference between him and everyone else, but if people had a bit more patience and just let him move over he's be out of everyone's hair sooner. The thing is that for 90% of drivers on the road, it's all about them, they'd rather pass him on the left and be on their way instead of sacrificing 5 seconds to give the guy a break and diffuse a potentially dangerous situation. I get annoyed by slow drivers just as much as the next guy, but sometimes it's better just to think of the greater good. Anyhow, seeing it on video and actually being there are two different things I guess.

    • @ijwilson
      @ijwilson 4 місяці тому

      @@sharkskinboy I don't want to get pedantic but... :) If you look at the vid, she was straddling both lanes and the cars behind were in fact still behind her (who knows for how long before I arrived on the scene), but I suspect they had probably queued up behind her to start with before tying to undertake her. So she could have moved into the left lane prior. Remember she placed herself in that lane to begin with. No idea where you are in the world, but this was a rental car on the main motorway of the countries largest city. This part of the motorway is 20mins from the airport and the occupants appeared to be from a country not known for high driving standards... God only knows what she got up to on secondary roads where there are loads of corners and oncoming traffic. The roads are not a training ground for tourists our road toll is high enough already! If she wasn't a tourist that's even worse!

    A variable electronically controlled valve could make a system like this disgustingly powerful. Because it would theoretically be able to make the fuel and air correspond accurately to the to the throttle position of the accelerator. For example, you stomp it and it flies because it's pumping in even more air and fuel than this system can manage because it only has 3 cam profiles instead of effectively infinite or about 10 but without using that system. Don't know if it would work at all, and if it did, your fuel use at high rpm would be fucked up. But you would get ridiculous power out of small displacement engines provided the rest of the engine and components are designed to handle a variable air fuel intake system.

    Surprisingly result considering that tyre pressure makes a noticeable difference when peddling a bicycle. I suppose it reflects the fact that wind resistance increases with the square of the speed, so that is much more of a factor at highway speed.

  • @haveaseatplease
    @haveaseatplease Рік тому

    For the average car, wind resistance becomes the dominant resistance above 40 to 45 km/h. If you drive predominately in city traffic, a higher tire pressure could give a marginally better economy. For heavy vehicles (like a loaded semi truck) a 15% higher tire pressure generates a notable lower consumption.

    • @ijwilson
      @ijwilson 2 місяці тому

      So why not make the 15% higher pressure the recommended pressure? More likely by increasing the pressure the savings in fuel economy are wiped out by needing to replace the tyres more frequently due to uneven wear.
